JCPS Adult Education needs volunteer tutors to work with
adult students in the following areas:
- Literacy - Teaching
reading skills to adults
- GED - Assisting students who are working toward their General
Equivalency Diplomas
- ESL (English as a Second
Language) - Teaching English to adults whose native language is not
English*
JCPS
Adult Education volunteer tutors must:
- be 18 years of age or
older;
- have a high school
diploma or GED;
- have two hours or more
per week to volunteer;
- have participated in a 12 - hour volunteer training program;
- have the patience and
desire to help others.
*No foreign language
is required
Required Training:
Volunteers
receive 12 hours of training in working with adult students before being
placed with a certified teacher in a classroom setting. Volunteers may
work at times and sites convenient to them for as many hours as they
wish. Opportunities to volunteer are available in the morning, afternoon,
and evening. Most volunteers average two or three hours per week.
